The works presented below were produced by students in my First-Year Composition Courses for multilingual speakers. Throughout the FYC courses, students explored various genres, topics, and media, and they were encouraged to express their ideas in artistic and innovative ways.

Space Exploration: Something Worth Discussing

In his blog, Enzo explores the issues of space exploration by NASA. He not only introduces the status quo with space exploration in great details, but also advocates enthusiastically for the continuation investment into space exploration. As a student in planetary science, he has demonstrated broad knowledge of this topic, as well as passionate engagement in discussing social issues. 

Ying L. (ENG 108)

What Is Artificial Intelligence?

Ying's blog leads us to the world of the artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. She breaks down the complicated mathematic principles behind the AI technology using simple and interactive language. Ying's blog demonstrates her kin interest in this topic and her critical thinking of this trendy technology, as she encourages us to think about the implications of the god-like power that AI possesses.

Zhiyu S. (ENG 108)

Biological Experiments 

Zhiyu's website walks us through the definition and the history of biological experiments. She draws upon a broad variety of sources, ranging from ancient Chinese literature to modern medical publications. In building this website, she also conducted an online survey among her family members and friends in China to understand how the general public perceives biological experiments. 

Palak, Nora, and Maria (ENG 107)

"Despacito", The Biggest Hit of 2017!

In this collaborative project, Palak, Nora, and Maria explore the reasons behind the popularity of "Despacito", a Latino song that became the greatest heat in 2017. The group situates the discussion of popular music in the international trend of crossover culture.

Pranay Kumar J. (ENG 107)

Money Heist

"Money Heist", a Netflix show, has received wide popularity around the globe. In her writing, Pranay analyzed how the key elements of the show--the signature red attire, the crown mask, and the song "Bella Ciao"--have crossed over into real life, becoming a symbol of rebellion to the current unjust social structure. 

Yi-Ting C. (ENG 107)

Recycle Confusion (Video)

This video project was designed as part of my dissertation project. It requires students to propose a solution to a sustainability issue observed on the Tempe Campus at ASU. The proposals were presented in videos to attract a wider. In Yi-Ting's 5-minute video, he took us to the dining hall, where he explained how the current instructions on recycling were confusing. Yi-Ting's video is grounded in the local community and supported by solid research.
